Padua classic tour and local drink

prato

Discover Padua, the bustle of the city markets, the largest square in Europe Prato della Valle and the most famous University in Italy accompanied by a local guide.

Have you ever heard of the “3 without” of Padua? In this tour you will understand better what it is.

The square without grass refers to the Prato della Valle, the characteristic town square, the largest in Italy and the second in Europe, surrounded by 78 statues, including that of Andrea Memmo who transformed the center of Prato della Valle from marshland in place of markets, meetings and walking.

Another equally evocative place is “the Saint without a name”, the imposing Basilica of Saint Anthony, destination of pilgrimages and simply called “The Saint”.

You will then take Via Umberto I and Via Roma, the pedestrian area of the city, with many shops and bars and finally you will stop at the University of Padua, known as the Palazzo del Bo. There are emblems left by students and professors and, during the period of degrees, you can see the papyrus and the jokes that friends prepare for the new graduates.

You then go to Caffè Pedrocchi, known as the “Café without doors” because it was open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the meeting place for students for a break and to study.

At this point of the day, we suggest you to drink something refreshing and, being in Padua, you cannot miss the spritz that the Paduan people take in the square of the city. Or you can choose to taste the delicious mint Caffè at Pedrocchi that being already sweetened it is served without a spoon !

You have to discover now one of the greatest jewels of Padua and it is possible to make an evening visit to the Scrovegni Chapel to admire “Giotto under the stars”, the paintings of one of the greatest Medieval painters.
