The first stop is Battaglia Terme, a riverside village and ancient river port in the Euganean Hills. You will then head towards Monselice, a medieval defensive stronghold, which welcomes you with a historic town center full of history. After a cappuccino, you’ll ride along the Bisatto Canal. The scenery constantly changes, and soon you will reach Este, the cradle of ancient Venetian civilization. Through gentle slopes among vineyards and olive groves, you will arrive at Arquà Petrarca, a medieval town that still retains its charm.
DAY 3 – VILLA DEI VESCOVI, SAN MARTINO CASTLE, AND THE PRAGLIA ABBEY (45 km – elevation gain 120 m)
The first stop today is the impressive Villa dei Vescovi, the noble residence of the Bishops of Padua, inspired by classical themes. Along picturesque country bike paths with stunning panoramic views, you will reach the Bacchiglione River embankment where you’ll find the medieval San Martino Castle, built to control the trade between the rival cities of Padua and Vicenza. After leaving the river, the excursion continues towards the Praglia Abbey, the most important Benedictine monastery in the Euganean Hills. Here, monks pray, work, and restore ancient books. On the way back, don’t miss the chance to enjoy an ice cream in the elegant spa town of Abano.
DAY 4 – PADUA AND THE BACCHIGLIONE RIVER (40 km – no elevation gain)
You will reach the eclectic Villa Emo Capodilista, now also known for the quality of the wines produced in its estates. Shortly after, you will encounter the Bacchiglione River, which will lead you to Padua along a beautiful bike path built on its embankments. By bike, you will enter from Prato della Valle, visit the Basilica del Santo, and explore the historic town center with its squares, the University, and the Pedrocchi Café. Lunch and free time to explore the city, with a return to the hotel in the afternoon.
DAY 5 – THE WESTERN HILLS AND THE CASTLE OF VALBONA (55 km – elevation gain 380 m)
This excursion will take you across the Euganean Hills, where you’ll be captivated by the hilly environment that these volcanic hills have to offer. You will reach Passo Roverello with some effort, but the views from there will reward you for every bit of effort. You are now in the heart of the natural park, about to descend into the western slope with beautiful views of the Vicenza plain. Upon reaching Monte Lozzo, you will find the Castle of Valbona, the last defensive stronghold of the Padua lords protecting the western plain. The return will follow a loop along the Euganean Hills, passing through the beautiful rural courtyard of Vo’ Vecchio.
