Half-day guided tour of the University of Padua with Transfer from Abano and Montegrotto Terme

Padua is known for its countless cultural and architectural attractions, but this city also tells the story of the path taken by man in scientific research and knowledge, thanks to its important university reality.

PROGRAMME:

Departure from the Terme Euganee with a private transfer to reach the center of Padua. The city is known for its countless cultural and architectural attractions, but the proposed itinerary also tells the story of the path taken by man in scientific research and knowledge, thanks to its important university reality.

The tour begins at Palazzo Bo, the historic seat of the University of Padua. It starts from the Cortile Antico, adorned with dozens of painted and embossed coats of arms placed since the seventeenth century to represent students and those who held academic positions.

From the Cortile Antico you access the upper floor via a staircase, where the large statue dedicated to Elena Lucrezia Cornaro Piscopia, the first woman to graduate in the world in 1678, is located; from here you go to the Sala dei Quaranta, which takes its name from the 40 portraits of famous foreign students of the University who lived in Padua between the thirteenth and nineteenth centuries. In this room is preserved the Chair of Galileo, from which, according to tradition, the scientist held his lessons. The room introduces the Aula Magna already mentioned in 1399 as part of the Hospitium Bovis and today a room used for ceremonies.

From the upper loggia of the Cortile Antico you can access the sixteenth-century Anatomical Theater, built during the teaching of the professor Girolamo Fabrici d’Acquapendente, and from here to the Hall of Medicine, reserved for the discussion of degree theses. Finally, a passage connects this room with the Hall of Jurisprudence frescoed in the 1940s by Gino Severini, who also designed the decoration of the shutters in neo-cubist style.

At the end of the visit, to feel like a true Paduan, we recommend you try the famous mint coffee in the historic Caffè Pedrocchi.

We will pick you up at your hotel in Abano or Montegortto Terme. Possibility to organize the appointment at the Terme Euganee Abano-Montegrotto train station or at another specific point on request.
